Captain John Henry Montagu Manners, 9th Duke of Rutland (21 August 1886 – 22 April 1940), [1] styled as Marquess of Granby from 1906 to 1925, was an English peer and medieval art expert. Early life and education. Rutland was the younger son of Henry Manners, 8th Duke of Rutland and his wife Violet.

John Manners, marquess of Granby (born August 2, 1721—died October 18, 1770, Scarborough, Yorkshire, England) was a British army officer, a popular British hero of the Seven Years’ War (1756–63). The eldest son and heir apparent of the 3rd duke of Rutland, he was styled the marquess of Granby by courtesy.

The 9th Earl was created Duke of Rutland in 1703. In 1717 John Manners, later 3rd Duke, married Bridget (d. 1734), daughter and heir of Robert Sutton, 2nd Baron Lexinton, but the Kelham (Nottinghamshire) estate of this family descended to younger sons of the marriage, who took the name of Manners-Sutton.
