Lieutenant-Colonel Sir Roland Vaughan Gwynne DSO, DL, JP (16 May 1882 – 15 November 1971) was a British soldier and politician who served as Mayor of Eastbourne, Sussex, from 1928 to 1931. He was also a patient, close friend, and probable lover of the suspected serial killer Dr John Bodkin Adams.
Rowland Gwynne FRS (c. 1658 – 24 January 1726) of Llanelwedd, Radnorshire, was a Welsh Whig politician. Gwynne was born in about 1658, the eldest son of George Gwynne of Llanelwedd, by his wife Sybill, daughter of Roderick Gwynne, also of Llanelwedd.
Gwynne was a political adventurer, reckless and outspoken, whose achievements were frequently marred by indiscretions.
Rupert Gwynne was father of Elizabeth David, the pre-eminent British cookery writer of the mid 20th century, and brother of Violet Gordon Woodhouse, the influential and highly acclaimed musician. On his death the house passed into the hands of his younger brother Roland Gwynne, Mayor of Eastbourne 1928-31.

The Hall’s early history has been lost, but since the 1630s and the days of Roderick Gwynne, followed by George Gwynne and Sir Rowland Gwynne, Llanelwedd Hall has been the home to branches of the Gwynne family.
