Georgy Sergeyevich Poltavchenko (Russian: Гео́ргий Серге́евич Полта́вченко, IPA: [ɡʲɪˈorɡʲɪj sʲɪrˈɡʲejɪvʲɪtɕ pɐlˈtaftɕɪnkə]; born on 24 February 1953) is a Russian politician. He has the federal state civilian service rank of 1st class Active State Councillor of the Russian Federation. [1] He became Governor of Saint Petersburg in 2011.
Georgy Poltavchenko is the third governor of St. Petersburg (formerly Leningrad), the second-largest city in Russia and its cultural capital, hometown of Vladimir Putin and Dmitry Medvedev. Georgy was appointed to the position on the 31 August, 2011.
