Maher al-Assad (Arabic: مَاهِرُ ٱلْأَسَدِ, romanized: Māhir al-ʾAsad, born 8 December 1967) is a Syrian general and commander of the Syrian Army's elite 4th Armoured Division, which together with Syria's Military Intelligence form the core of the country's security forces.
Maher Al-Ásad (en árabe: ماهر الأسد; Damasco, 8 de diciembre de 1967) [1] es un militar y general sirio y comandante de la 4ª División Blindada de élite del Ejército sirio, que junto con la Inteligencia Militar de Siria forman el núcleo de las fuerzas de seguridad del país.
Maher Al Assad commands the elite troops that protect the Syrian capital from rebels on its outskirts and is widely believed to have helped orchestrate the regime’s fierce campaign to put down the uprising, now well into its third year. He has also gained a reputation for brutality among opposition activists.
