Levi P. Morton (1824-1920) was the 22nd vice president of the United States, a governor of New York, and a U.S. ambassador to France. He was a Republican politician and a successful businessman who rose from humble origins in Vermont to become a wealthy investment banker in New York.

Levi Morton (born May 16, 1824, Shoreham, Vt., U.S.—died May 16, 1920, Rhinebeck, N.Y.) was the 22nd vice president of the United States (1889–1893) in the Republican administration of Benjamin Harrison and a prominent American banker.

Morton used his growing influence to run for a seat in the House of Representatives in 1876. He lost by a slim margin but made a second attempt in 1878. Divisions within the Democratic Party and his popular rescue of a Republican newspaper helped him win the election easily.
