Joseph Landon Evins (October 24, 1910 – March 31, 1984) was an American lawyer and politician who served 15 terms as a Democratic U.S. Representative from Tennessee from 1947 to 1977. Early life [ edit] Evins was a native of the Blend Community of DeKalb County, Tennessee, the son of James Edgar Evins and Myrtie Goodson Evins. [1] .
Joe L. Evins, after a very active and productive life, began to slow down. He died on March 31, 1984. Joe L. Evins was truly the last of the old time Congressmen from Tennessee.

Evins attended Vanderbilt University, graduating in 1933. The following year, he took his law degree from Cumberland University Law School.
