Scott Milne Matheson Jr. (January 8, 1929 – October 7, 1990) was an American politician who served as the 12th governor of Utah from 1977 to 1985. He is the most recent Democrat to serve in that position.
Scott Milne Matheson Jr. (born Scott Milne Matheson III; July 15, 1953) is a United States circuit judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. He has served on that court since 2010.
Scott M. Matheson was born 8 January 1929 in Chicago, Illinois, a son of Scott Milne and Adele Adams Matheson. He soon moved with his family to Parowan, Utah, and, when he was five years old, to Salt Lake City, where his father became Assistant U.S. Attorney for Utah.
Scott M. Matheson was a Democrat who served as Utah governor from 1977 to 1985. He was known for his skills in government administration, his alliance with corporations, and his opposition to the MX missile and nerve gas.
Judge Matheson welcomes clerkship applications for the following: Two one-year positions, one will begin August 2025, and the other will begin in late December 2025. Three one-year positions that will begin August 2026, and another that will begin in late December 2026.
