Gil Evans (Toronto, Canadá, 13 de mayo de 1912 – Cuernavaca, México, 20 de marzo de 1988) fue un pianista de jazz, arreglista, compositor, y líder de banda activo en los Estados Unidos. Ian Ernest Gilmore Evans ( né Green; May 13, 1912 – March 20, 1988) [1] was a Canadian–American jazz pianist, arranger, composer and bandleader. He is widely recognized as one of the greatest orchestrators in jazz, playing an important role in the development of cool jazz, modal jazz, free jazz, and jazz fusion.

Biography. Evans completed his service in February, 1946. He went to California to visit his mother and friends, and took a train cross-country to New York City, “ to meet his heroes and make some contacts.” . He had a job waiting for him with Thornhill, who had reorganized his big band.
