Wilhelm von Opel (15 May 1871 – 2 May 1948), known as Wilhelm Opel before being ennobled in 1917, was one of the founders of the German automobile manufacturer Opel. He introduced the assembly line to the German automobile industry.
Wilhelm Albert Opel war ein deutscher Unternehmer aus der Familie Opel und Mitinhaber der Adam Opel KG. In den 1920er Jahren führte er mit dem Opel „Laubfrosch“ in der deutschen Automobilindustrie die Fließbandfertigung ein.
El 17 de marzo de 1929, Wilhelm von Opel y su hermano Friedrich Opel vendieron inicialmente el 80 % de las acciones de la compañía al grupo automotriz estadounidense General Motors (GM). GM se hizo cargo de la empresa por completo en 1931. La principal razón fue el inicio de la Gran Depresión.

Nicht verschwiegen werden soll seine NSDAP-Mitgliedschaft ab 1933, welche vielleicht eher taktischer Natur war – Opel, in ausländischem Besitz, wurde von den regierenden Nazis mit chronischem Misstrauen bedacht.
