Hugh Colin Hopper (29 April 1945 – 7 June 2009) was a British progressive rock and jazz fusion bass guitarist. He was a prominent member of the Canterbury scene , as a member of Soft Machine and other bands.

(Clicka qua per la versione Italiana) Soft Machine's bassist Hugh Hopper debuted solo with 1984 (CBS, 1973), one of the most futuristic albums of the Canterbury school (fuzz bass, loops, overdub). The 14-minute Miniluv was entirely performed by Hopper on bass and assorted electronic devices. Dispensing with melody and rhythm, Hopper sculpted an eerie soundscape of free timbres.
