Born Again Savage was a return to the raw, garage rock sound of his second album, Voice of America from 1984. The main topic of the album is religion. The rhythm section on all songs is bassist Adam Clayton (of U2) and drummer Jason Bonham. Jean Beauvoir, who was one of the original Disciples of Soul, sang background vocals on the album.
During a break from U2 in 1994, Adam Clayton would join with Little Steven (member of Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band) and Jason Bonham (son of Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham) to work on an album.
Clayton también apareció en el álbum de 1999 de Steven Van Zandt Born Again Savage. Born Again Savage is one of Steve's only album without "The Dicsiples of Soul," his early band from 1982. In stead of "The Dicsiples," Stevie has Adam Clayton, a band member from the famous pop band U2,and Jason Bonham.
However, this huge sound includes only Little Steven on guitar, Adam Clayton (U2) on Bass, and Jason Bonham (yes, him) on Drums. It's an incredibly intense album that sounds like a cross between Yardbirds, Cream, Led Zeppelin.
