Canterbury College was a private institution located in Danville, Indiana, United States from 1878 to 1951. The school was known as Central Normal College prior to 1946. [1] History. The college was founded in 1876 as part of the larger statewide university system in Indiana.
Canterbury College opened in the fall of 1946 and remained in operation for five years. While continuing in the same buildings with many of the same faculty, there seems to have been shifts in academic emphases. The Canterbury catalogue defined the school as a “co-educational liberal arts college” rather than a normal school.
Central Normal was taken over by the Episcopal Church and renamed Canterbury College which lasted until 1951. The museum has a large collection of yearbooks, pictures, and grade books of the college. Exciting Project for Central Normal/Canterbury College Collection
