The Wanderer, Brooklyn Rider, (In a Circle Records) Grau’s “Aroma a Distancia,” composed for Brooklyn Rider in 2020, embraces the composer’s peripatetic life with wavering violins and viola, suggesting traditional Venezuelan folk tunes and the boisterous improvisation of flamenco.
Brooklyn Rider has long been one of the most exciting acts on the string quartet circuit, but for years they have studiously avoided releasing a live album. Now The Wanderer, recorded in Paliesius Manor, Lithuania, finally captures the special frisson the group is capable of creating in concert.

The Venezeulan’s six-minute work is imbued with memories of the musical and (especially) dance styles he has absorbed during his peripatetic 50 years.
