History of the University. Authorized by the Texas Legislature in 1899, Southwest Texas State Normal School opened its doors in 1903. During the first century, the Legislature retained the regional designation in the name, but as its mission changed it became first Normal College, then successively Teachers College, College and University.
Students currently in the BFA Theatre program are eligible to apply for the Film Production concentration. General Requirements. The Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) major in Theatre with a concentration in Film Production requires admission to the university and admission to the program.
