Vytautas Žalakevičius (14 April 1930 – 12 November 1996) was a Soviet and Lithuanian film director and screenwriter. His 1973 film That Sweet Word: Liberty! won the Golden Prize at the 8th Moscow International Film Festival.

Vytautas Zalakevicius was a notable Lithuanian director, best known for his film Nobody Wanted to Die (1965). He was born Vytautas Prano Zalakevicius on April 14, 1930, in Kaunas, Lithuania. From 1948-1950 he studied to become an engineer at the Kaunas State University.

Vytautas ŽALAKEVIČIUS (1930-1996, Lithuania) studied directing at the Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography from 1951 to 1956, graduating with the short film Skenduolis. After graduating, he joined the Lithuanian Film Studio. In 1959, he directed the chapter ‘Living Heroes’ from The Living Heroes.
