The University of Auckland ( UoA; Māori: Waipapa Taumata Rau) is a public research university based in Auckland, New Zealand. The institution was established in 1883 as a constituent college of the University of New Zealand. Originally it was housed in a disused courthouse.
The University is ranked 68 th in the world by the QS World University Rankings 2024, making it New Zealand’s highest ranked university. It is also the largest and most comprehensive with over 35,000 students, including 9,350 in 2023, international students representing over 107 countries.
