Ugyen Wangchuck was crowned on December 17, 1907, with the title Druk Gyalpo (Dragon King). During his 19 years reign, he maintained close relations with Britain and India, as part of gaining security from the increasing Chinese influence in Tibet. Aside from that, Bhutan remained largely isolated from the rest of the world.
