James (Jeremiah) Griffiths CH PC (19 September 1890 – 7 August 1975) was a Welsh Labour Party politician who served for 34 years as a Member of Parliament (MP). He was a trade union leader and became the first Secretary of State for Wales, serving from 1964 to 1966 under Harold Wilson.

5 de abr. de 2021 · The Rt Hon James Griffiths was one of the most prominent figures in the Labour Party in Wales from the 1930s right through until his death in 1975, and he served as the MP for Llanelli from 1936 until his retirement in 1970. In British politics, too, his contribution was formidable in several roles.
GRIFFITHS, JAMES (JEREMIAH) (1890-1975), Labour politician and cabinet minister. He was born at Betws, Ammanford on 19 September 1890, the youngest of the ten children of William Griffiths, a colliery blacksmith, and Margaret Morris. One of his brothers was the celebrated Welsh poet Amanwy (David Rhys Griffiths, died December 1953).

The aim of this dissertation is to examine the influences which led to Jim Griffiths becoming perhaps the leading member of the cohort of former miners who followed the ‘pit to parliament’ route, in South Wales and elsewhere. In 1936, 13 of the 17 Welsh Labour MPs were former miners.
There is no question in our minds that Jim has earned his position as one of the world's premier marine watercolorists whose work will be featured among the important maritime museum collectors in the years ahead.
