The original band members were Tom Ashton (guitar), Laurence "Loz" Elliot (bass), Simon "Detroit" Denbigh (vocals) and Rosie Garland (vocals). Percussion was provided by a drum machine, nicknamed "Dr. Rhythm", a feature they had in common with many of the bands in the Leeds scene at the time.
The band was formed by former March Violets vocalist Simon Detroit (b. 4 de ago. de 2022 · Denbigh – who at various times has gone by the names Simon Diablo, Simon Dee, Sigh and Simon Detroit – looks like Alan Moore’s younger brother: bearded, northern, dressed in black, and with an air of ‘the old world’ about him. Though in this case, ‘the old world’ is the 80s.
What set this quartet apart was the unique interplay (a la X or the Airplane) between the two complementary lead vocalists - big, bearded Simon Denbigh and enigmatic Rosie Garland. His dark, commanding intonations intertwined with her eerie soprano wailing, imbuing the simplistic material with a strident, almost dissonant mystery.

22 de may. de 2020 · Simon Denbigh: Snake Dance was our best-selling single. We bought a Linn drum – which cost three or four thousand pounds at the time at the time. It was the Rolls-Royce of drum machines. Snake Dance was produced by Gil Norton before he was famous. We worked with unknown guys who later became famous.
