In 1953, Sahm met Augie Meyers while he purchased baseball cards at Meyer's mother's grocery store, and the two became friends. Meyers and Sahm discussed forming a band, but nothing came of it as both played with different groups.

6 de may. de 2012 · The Return of Doug Saldaña blev Sir Douglas sista skiva innan gruppen gick skilda vägar. Doug Sahm själv åkte till New York och spelade in den underbara Doug Sahm and Band medans övriga medlemmar med Augie Meyers i spetsen fortsatte som The Quintet. På 80-talet återförenades original-Douglas med låtar om Stockholm och förlista regalskepp.
In 1983, Sahm and Augie Meyers signed with the Swedish Sonet label, and made several extensive European tours that revitalized their careers. The single "Meet Me In Stockholm" from their Midnight Sun LP went platinum and was one of the biggest selling records ever in Scandinavia.
