Kay was born and raised in Redlands, California and graduated from Redlands Adventist Academy before attending Walla Walla University and receiving her Bachelor of Science in Health Promotion. While at Walla Walla University she worked for the School of Social Work in admissions and spent a year abroad teaching high school in Pohnpei, Micronesia.
