Doc Williams (June 26, 1914 – January 31, 2011) was an influential American country music bandleader and vocalist. [1] [2] Biography. Born as Andrew John Smik Jr. in Cleveland, Ohio, United States, [1] and raised in Kittanning, Pennsylvania, he got his professional start playing with the Kansas Clodhoppers during the early 1930s.

Doc Williams made his first appearance on the WWVA Jamboree back in December of 1937. He's the oldest living regular member of the Jamboree and still a favorite of the fans. It didn't take him long to capture the hearts of the fans - in 1938 he won the distinction as the station's most popular act.
