The 1932 "Moten Swing", written by Bennie and Buster Moten, recorded at Camden, New Jersey, on December 13, 1932, gained much acclaim in the jazz community and is seen as an important jazz standard in the move towards a freer form of orchestral jazz.

Bennie Moten ( Kansas City, Misuri, 13 de noviembre de 1894 - 2 de abril de 1935) fue un pianista, compositor y director de orquesta de jazz - swing . Comenzó siendo aún niño, tocando el saxhorn en un grupo de metales de su ciudad natal. Profesionalmente se inició en 1918, al frente de un trío, que se convierte en sexteto hacia 1921.
While “Moten Swing” did not chart, an earlier composition by Bennie Moten and trombonist Thamon Hayes called “Moten Stomp” (1927) made the charts in 1928 where it remained for two weeks, reaching #16. The titles are sometimes confused. (See Chris Tyle’s history notes.)
The jazz standard "Moten Swing" bears his name. Career. Moten started making music from an early age and developed as a pianist, pulling together other musicians in a band. His first recordings were made (for OKeh Records) on September 23, 1923, and were rather typical interpretations of the New Orleans style of King Oliver and others. [3] .
