Sidney R. Garfield (April 17, 1906 – December 29, 1984) was an American medical doctor and a pioneer of health maintenance organizations. He co-founded the Kaiser Permanente healthcare system with businessman Henry J. Kaiser.

In the 1930s, Sidney Garfield, MD, established the foundation for Permanente Medicine in the Mojave Desert while providing care for workers building the Los Angeles Aqueduct. He combined caring for the sick and injured with analysis and confrontation of the causes of his patients' acute need for care.
