I was born on October 31, 1925 and lived there with my parents until shortly after the end of the Second World War in 1946. No member of my family was involved in any scientific or technical activity. Indeed, I was the first to attend a university. My father, Keith Pople, owned the principal men’s clothing store in Burnham.
