13 de sept. de 2012 · Gregg Turner is known to most as a founding member of the Angry Samoans, a Los Angeles hardcore band that began in 1978. He is also known, perhaps, to a different slice of the population as a record reviewer for Creem Magazine (1976-1998) where he was noted for his inspired hatchet jobs on the likes of Bon Jovi, The Who and even Iggy Pop.
His father may have preferred he become a dermatologist, but in addition to breaking his parents’ hearts by becoming an Angry Samoan, Gregg Turner also found the time to become a doctor of mathematics, and has taught math for the last few decades before his recent retirement.
Intro: Gregg Turner has had a long rollercoaster ride as a musician. It started in the mid 1970's with VOM-a band that featured 3 music critics-Richard Meltzer, Mike Saunders and himself. There must have quite a few long winded discussions in that rehearsal room!
