Francis Folger Franklin (October 20, 1732 – November 21, 1736) was the son of Founding Father of the United States Benjamin Franklin and Deborah Read. In 1736, four-year-old Francis contracted the smallpox virus and died shortly thereafter.
Around the time they married Franklin took custody of an illegitimate child, William. The name of the mother remains a mystery. The couple had two children. The first was Francis Folger Franklin born October 1732. The second, Sarah Franklin born in 1743. In 1736 Francis, who was 4 years old, died from small pox. He had not been inoculated.

Called “Franky” by his parents, Francis was described as a “precocious, curious and special” child. Tragically, Francis died in 1736 at the age of four after contracting small pox.
