Moran’s sound is that of a 21st century Thelonious Monk with a distinctive angular attack that is fully informed of today’s Brooklyn beats. Even as far back as the 1980s JMT recordings, Osby’s saxophone voice has been remarkable.

1 de ago. de 2001 · Osby and pianist Jason Moran perform it as a duet, with powerful majesty. Several of the tunes swing, while much of the session offers dramatic impressionism. Greg Osby continues to carve his way into an ever-changing jazz scene that wants to grow but doesn't yet know which roads to follow.
O’s Notes: The core band is a quartet led by Osby (sax) with Jason Moran (p), Scott Cooley (b) and Marlon Browden (d). They intertwine with strings to get a unique orchestral sound. The program is mainly new compositions from Osby written to stimulate improvisation over central dark themes.
