Rodney Terence Argent (born 14 June 1945) is an English musician. In a career spanning more than 50 years, Argent came to prominence in the mid-1960s as the keyboardist, founder and leader of the rock band the Zombies, [1] and went on to form the band Argent after the first break-up of the Zombies. [2]
In 1991, Argent and Van Hooked helmed one of the most important records of Nanci Griffith’s career, Late Night Grande Hotel, and 1993 brought Painted Desert Serenade, the two million-selling debut of Californian singer-songwriter Joshua Kadison.
The song was written by Kadison, and produced by Peter Van Hooke and Rod Argent. It did not become a hit in continental Europe until 1994 and in the United Kingdom until 1995. "Jessie" became a top-10 hit in Austria, Denmark, and the Netherlands. In the US, it peaked at number 26 on both the Billboard Hot 100 and Cash Box Top 100.
