Alexander James Moore Academy (more commonly referred to as A.J. Moore Academy) was a magnet high school in the Waco ISD district in Waco, TX. A.J. Moore was designed to prepare students for success in post secondary education and in the workplace.
In order to combat budget shortfalls, the school board elected to consolidate A. J. Moore Academy with University High in 2012. A. J. Moore High School was the first and arguably most successful effort for the provision of systematic and quality education for children of all races in Waco.
Welcome to the A.J. Moore High School National Alumni Association Website. Our Alumni Association is a “NON-PROFIT” Organization that was founded in 1973 in Waco, Texas, and has been strongly supporting deserving students and their descendants for the past 45 years.
As the first school in Waco designated to educate the city's negro youth, A.J. Moore High School was an important institution in the community. Until 1952, Moore High housed students from grades one through twelve from 1952 to 1971 it served grades seven through twelve only.
A.J. Moore Academies have been selected by the Governor of Texas and the Texas Education Agency as a Texas Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math Academy. The National Academy Foundation designated A.J. Moore as one of five Distinguished Academies in the United States.
