His father, Donald Harrison, Sr., was also a Big Chief — and a big Charlie Parker fan. Getting serious about the saxophone at 14, Harrison Jr., was part of a coterie of young New Orleanians — including Terence Blanchard and Wynton and Branford Marsalis — who would make a splash in New York in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s.
