Kathleen Eleonora "Kitty" Garman, la protagonista de la obra de 1947, fue la primera esposa de Lucian Freud, uno de los grandes exponentes de la denominada Escuela de Londres. El nieto de Sigmund. Nieto del afamado psicoanalista Sigmund Freud, Lucian nació en Berlín en 1922 y se exilió con su familia a Londres en 1933 escapando del nazismo.
