Barrett was replaced on bass by Alfie Agius for the Shuttered Room tour. Agius' stay in the band was short-lived, though, as he left during the 1983 recording of their next album Reach the Beach, after having recorded four tracks.

3 de ago. de 2020 · Alfie is a fantastic bassist who created some iconic bass lines. I told him a couple of years ago that there were tutorials on youtube of his bass lines and he was quite surprised. He really had no idea how iconic his bass lines were ( though he was well-aware of how intrinsic they were to the FIXX hits they created).
In order to keep the band on the road as a touring concern, two London musicians were hired – keyboard player Jeff Hammer and bass player Alfie Agius (the latter freeing Cope to concentrate on vocals and rhythm guitar). Despite the internal turmoil, by 1981 The Teardrop Explodes were at the height of their popularity.
