Twelve new decorative windows installed today in Grace Hopper College, the Yale residential college previously known as Calhoun College, celebrate the richness of the college’s community and contemplate the complex history behind its name.
Grace Hopper College is a residential college of Yale University, opened in 1933 as one of the original eight undergraduate residential colleges endowed by Edward Harkness.

10 de feb. de 2017 · Grace Brewster Murray Hopper was a computer pioneer and naval officer. She received a master’s degree (1930) and a Ph.D. (1934) in mathematics from Yale. One of the first three modern “programmers,” Hopper is best known for her trailblazing contributions to the development of computer languages.
14 de feb. de 2022 · Feb. 11 marked the five year anniversary of the announcement that Calhoun College would be renamed Grace Hopper College, a decision made in the wake of widespread student protest. Although some relics of the college’s past have been replaced to reflect the new namesake, others remain.
10 de feb. de 2017 · The new name honors Grace Murray Hopper, a computer scientist, engineer and naval officer who graduated with both a master’s and doctoral degree from Yale in the 1930s — three decades before the university’s undergraduate college became coeducational.
