David Paton (/ ˈ p eɪ t ə n /; born 29 October 1949) is a Scottish bassist, guitarist and singer. He first achieved success in the mid-1970s as lead vocalist and bassist of Pilot, who scored hits with "Magic", "January", "Just a Smile" and "Call Me Round" before splitting in 1977.

Formed in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1973, Pilot initially consisted of David Paton and Billy Lyall (b. 26 March 1953, Edinburgh; synthesizer/piano/flute/vocals), two former members of the Bay City Rollers and Stuart Tosh (b. 26 September 1951, Aberdeen, Scotland; drums).
