Marilyn Michaels began her career as a child prodigy, performing at the age of 7 with her mother, trailblazing Cantoress Fraydele Oysher. She sang in Hebrew, Yiddish, and English. By the time she was 14, she was soloist in her father Harold Sternberg’s (Met Opera Basso) choir, and the Cantor was her Uncle, the world renowned Moishe Oysher.
Marilyn Michaels was born in Manhattan to Russian Jewish émigré parents. Her mother was cantoress and actress Fraydele Oysher and her father was Harold Sternberg, a senior basso with the Metropolitan Opera for 37 years.
Her recordings of The Oysher Album, and The Oysher Heritage are available in most Tower Records, and some have become collectibles. Fraydele lives on New York's Upper West Side one block from her daughter, singer/comedienne Marilyn Michaels.
