Guitarist Jon Salemi recorded the album with "full-blown chicken pox" and noted that the album's recording was "very, very quick." The album was released in April 1997. The album is considered to be revolutionary by many fans of hardcore. The band set out on a summer tour, and featured performances on the Vans Warped Tour.
