Lace (Russian: Кружева, romanized: Kruzheva) is a 1928 Soviet silent film directed by Sergei Yutkevich and starring Nina Shaternikova, Konstantin Gradopolov and Boris Tenin. The film is based on the story "Wall-news" (Russian: Стенгаз, romanized: Stengaz) written by Mark Kolosov.
End of the 20s. The Komsomol cell of the lace factory is suppressed by the authority of its secretary, the local Leonardo da Vinci. Boredom and dying melancholy reign in cell meetings. The Komsomol secretary publishes a dull, gray wall newspaper. The club is inactive.
Since director Sergei Yutkevich was a longtime lover of American slapstick, his first films were imbued with a playfulness and cheeriness not typical of Russian cinema. And Kruzheva is a good example of that as he illustrates the friendly rivalries between the youths on village in both a very rough and clowning way.
