‘Enough rope to hang ‘emselves ‘ is the second solo exhibition at the gallery of Manchester born, Basel based artist Clare Kenny. Clare Kenny works with a variety of materials such as found objects and building materials, neon and photography where reality and representation are explored.
Kenneth Cloudsley Clare (8 June 1929 – 11 January 1985) [1] was a British jazz drummer. [note 1] Early life. Born in Leytonstone, Essex, England, Clare learnt to play the drums at the age of 13. [1] [2] Career. In 1947, Clare joined the Royal Air Force and played with various service bands.
To Clare Kenny, nothing is more inspiring than ordinary life. Petrol slicks become glass sculptures, and rope found in the fabric her grandmother used to work at becomes a neon installation series. Kenny's art is always authentically hers and never aspires to be art for art's sake.
