Stanley Clarke, Chick Corea, Joe Henderson, Freddie Hubbard, Lenny White. Griffith Park Collection opens with White’s “L’s Bop,” a 60’s Blue Note paean showcasing some vintage Hubbard hornwork that evokes those sunny days when Blue Note producer Alfred Lion was repeatedly capturing the blinding brilliance of an era.
Stanley Clarke makes an unusual appearance on upright bass, and plays it well. Chick Corea and Lenny White round out the ensemble. The set is strictly acoustic, beginning and ending with two Lenny White tunes, the lively "L's Bop" and the somber, dramatic "Guernica," respectively.

Swallow’s “Remember” is also a nice add; suggested by Corea, the pianist lingers over the notes lovingly while Clarke steps to the fore. Most of these songs were given a longer treatment on the subsequent live double elpee, The Griffith Park Collection 2: In Concert.
