Shortly after their formation, Weasel decided that it was too difficult to play bass and sing at the same time, so Vince Vogel, who took the stage name "Vinnie Bovine" joined as the band's bassist. The band recorded their debut album, Screeching Weasel , in one night for $200 and released it on Chicago label Underdog Records in 1987.
Screeching Weasel is the debut studio album by the Chicago -based punk rock band Screeching Weasel. It was originally released on vinyl with a limited pressing of 1,000 copies in September 1987 through local independent label Underdog Records and was the band's only album with bassist Vinnie Bovine, who was fired the next year. The album remained out of print for 10 years, partially because the bassist Vinnie Bovine, who was fired in 1988, allegedly wanted too much money from the band for the right to release it and partially because of Ben's dissatisfaction with the record itself.
The band was initially founded as a trio featuring vocalist Ben Weasel (also playing bass at the time), guitarist Jughead, and drummer Steve Cheese. The group first called itself All-Night Garage Sale, but changed their name to Screeching Weasel after bassist Vinnie Bovine joined in December 1986. Bovine would be fired in January 1988.
