C Jam Blues (1986) Tivoli Encounter is a live album by American jazz pianist Phineas Newborn, Jr. recorded in Denmark in 1979 at the first Copenhagen Jazz Festival but not released on the Dutch Storyville label until 1997.
Phineas Newborn Jr. (December 14, 1931 – May 26, 1989) was an American jazz pianist, whose principal influences were Art Tatum, Oscar Peterson, and Bud Powell. Biography [ edit ] Newborn was born in Whiteville, Tennessee , [2] and came from a musical family: his father, Phineas Newborn Sr., was a drummer in blues bands, [2] and his younger brother, Calvin , a jazz guitarist. [3]
