Inventions for Electric Guitar is the first solo studio album by guitarist and composer Manuel Göttsching. Initially, it was released with the subtitle Ash Ra Tempel VI, technically making it the sixth and final album under the Ash Ra Tempel name.

In 1975 Göttsching released a solo album, Inventions for Electric Guitar, that was subtitled "Ash Ra Tempel VI" — dubbing it the sixth Ash Ra Tempel album. Later that year Göttsching collborated on the soundtrack for Philippe Garrel 's Le berceau de cristal with Lütz Ülbrich of Agitation Free.

After the demise of Ash Ra Tempel, Michael Göttsching went on to form Ashra, a band dwelling in similar ambient realms, but with the aid of electronic instruments. In between both incarnations of the Ashra bands, Göttsching released Inventions for Electric Guitar as a first solo album.
