William J. Brown is Professor and Research Fellow in the School of Communication and the Arts at Regent University in Virginia Beach, Virginia, where he serves as Chair of the Department of Strategic Communication and Journalism and Director of the Ph.D. Program in Communication.
Dr. Brown is a communication scholar and educator who studies and uses entertainment-education for social change, health communication, and media and social influence. He has taught and researched in more than 40 countries and published several books and articles on communication theory and practice.
William J. Brown had been born in 1814 into a free black family in Providence, Rhode Island. His father was a sailor and laborer and his mother was the daughter of an African-American slave and Narragansett Indian woman. William became an artisan and leader in Providence’s African-American community.
