4 de ene. de 2022 · With the development of the law, God gave the Israelites specific instructions as to the types of burnt offerings and what they symbolized. Leviticus 1 and 6:8-13 describe the traditional burnt offering. The Israelites brought a bull, sheep, or goat, a male with no defect, and killed it at the entrance to the tabernacle.

The burnt offering was one of the most frequent and significant offerings a worshipper could offer in Old Testament times. 4 But because the ancient world was already very familiar with this offering, modern readers are left to discern its purpose and significance from only scant biblical data.

Many times, these were elaborate rituals involving costly sacrifice, such as the firstborn best lamb belonging to a people who perhaps had little or nothing else.
