A member of Blakey’s Jazz Messengers from 1977 to 1980, Ponomarev previously recorded a live big-band session with a similar group in 2014.

Art Blakey became a ‘father-figure’ of sorts for Valery as the Messengers ‘roared’ through Valery’s time with the group. (1976-1980). Art Blakey’s leadership set a standard for all groups of the bebop and hard bop group to follow.
