On June 3, 2016, Cage9 released their album Illuminator on EMP Label Group, and was followed by a series of shows and fests. They closed the year touring with Lacey Sturm across the U.S. In 2017 former bassist and longtime member Gustavo Aued returned to the band after playing with Powerman 5000 for a couple of years.
