Marsalis was born in New Orleans, the son of Dolores (née Ferdinand) and Ellis Louis Marsalis, Jr., a pianist and music professor. BEING POSITIVE IS A SERIOUS BUSINESS, AND MARSALIS HAS BRIDGED THE GAP BETWEEN MAKING A MUSICAL MESSAGE NEEDING TO BE HEARD, AND WRAPPING IT IN A PACKAGE THAT CAN BE ABSORBED AND APPRECIATED.
