Eric and Ernie is a 2011 British television drama film based on the early career of the British comic double-act Morecambe and Wise. [1] The film was produced by BBC Wales, completed in 2010, and premiered on BBC Two on 1 January 2011. [2] It was watched by 6.65 million viewers.
Eric Morecambe married Joan Bartlett in 1952; six weeks later, Ernie Wise married dancer Doreen Blythe, whom he had met in 1947. The Morecambes raised three children, but Wise resolved never to have a family; in Doreen's words, "Ernie always said that as soon as children are involved the wife stays home, and that's where trouble lies."
There was one consolation for Ernie: he met a girl called Doreen Blythe, one of the dancers. They’ve been Mr. and Mrs. Wise for years now. Later, Eric met a dancer called Joan Bartlett in a show in Edinburgh and she became his wife. They re-formed in London to embark at last on that long apprenticeship.

At odds with the act’s dynamic during its prime, it was the young Ernie Wise who was the headliner before the two met. Touted as Britain’s Mickey Rooney, he was performing in the West End when Eric Bartholomew won the chance to audition for a part in the same revue.
