His last piano concerto (No. 5, Op. 73, known as the Emperor ), dedicated to his frequent patron Archduke Rudolf of Austria, premiered in 1811, without Beethoven as soloist. He was almost completely deaf by 1815, and he then gave up performing and appearing in public.

Hace 4 días · A side note: the recording of Beethoven's Triple Concerto for EMI with von Karajan and the "star soloists" Richter, Oistrakh and Rostropovich also seems to me to be far from being a first choice. Richter himself says in Monsaingeon's film that he is dissatisfied with this recording, and that Karajan and Oistrakh had formed an alliance against him and Rostropovich.
